Code of ethics and good conduct
Ethical standards. Avances welcomes the text published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE): http://publicationethics.org/
In case of improvements and spelling errors, visual handling of information or unintentional inaccuracies, the author(s) may contact the journal or the editor to request adjustments in the electronic version, which will be done as soon as possible. If the journal, at some point in the editorial process, finds falsification, omission of data, duplication of articles or plagiarism, the original will be returned to the author with due notification to its sponsoring institution, research center or university. Each of the articles submitted to the journal will be verified with internal procedures to avoid plagiarism and duplication of articles (it will be understood as a duplicate article when the content submitted does not exceed 75% of originality in front of a document of one of the authors and published in another journal).
Ethical issues to consider when writing an article
The most common ethical errors in scientific publications and how to avoid them
| Definition | How to avoid it | |
|---|---|---|
| Plagiarism | Present the work of other authors without citing them. For example: copy without attribution figures, tables, results, texts of other manuscripts without citing them. | Always quote the work of other authors, if a text is copied text must be in quotes. |
| Duplication | Attempt to publish the same manuscript, in whole or in part in more than one journal. | Do not send the same manuscript, completely or partially to more than one journal at a time, wait for your article to be rejected or withdrawn to send it to another journal. |
| Redundant publication | Use results from another article (usually own) in a new manuscript. Also called auto-plagiarism. | Do not use results from previous studies, even for statistical analysis. Repeat the necessary controls for each experiment. |
| Falsification and invention | Change or invent data in a manuscript, with the purpose of improving and embellishing the results of the study. | The manuscript must fully and faithfully present the results obtained. |
| Authorship | Disagreement due to the inclusion, omission or change in the order of the authors. | Decide authorship before writing the manuscript, preferably before beginning the study. Sign the forms of authorship required by the journals. Make sure that all authors contribute to the study and the article. |
| Handling figures | Alter or modify images in such a way that the figure no longer reflects the results obtained. | Do not obstruct, change places, erase or enter details in the images. |
